Successful African Business Leader

Morocco had a fairly stable economy with continuous development and growth over the past half-century. This development has been leaded by different successful African business leaders. One of the most known leaders is Mrs. Miriem Bensalah-Chaqroun.

She was born on November 14th, 1962 in Casablanca, Morocco. She is a Moroccan businesswoman and a president of the general Confederacy of the enterprises of Morocco. She is the first woman at the head of the employers and one of the most influential women in Morocco and in Africa. In 2013, she was considered one of " the most influential 25 women of the business in Africa" according to the newspaper Jeune Afrique. And in the same year she was a member of the jury of Women's Cartier Initiative Awards.

She also appeared on the annual rankings of the " most powerful Arabic businesswomen " published by Forbes Middle East, where she was 15th in 2014, 63rd in 2015, 52nd in 2016, and 30th in 2017.

Miriem Bensalah Chaqroun holds an MBA in International and Finance from the University of Dallas and she is an alumna of the “Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Paris” and University Paris IX – Dauphine, France.

She is the CEO of a leading company called “Les Eaux Minérales d'Oulmès S.A.”, that is listed on the Stock Exchange of Casablanca, specialized in water and bottling.

She is also the CEO of the Holmarcom Group, one of the five largest industrial, commercial and financial groups of Morocco that belongs to her family. Moreover she is a board member of Bank Al Maghrib, the National Central and Reserve Bank of Morocco, and Chairperson of the Euro-Mediterranean Center of Mediation and Arbitration.

In addition to that Mrs. Bensalah–Chaqroun is deeply involved in humanitarian private and public agencies as well as in numerous charitable associations.

Her success was due to her family, because in Morocco, the most brilliant businesswomen are almost all heiresses of accumulated fortunes, thanks to the closeness of their families with the center of the power. She is very appreciated by the king, and she is one of the first people invited to accompany him in his journeys in Africa where she signed a long common series of partnership with her counterparts of the visited countries.

Her dynamism during these visits was worth the consideration and the respect of numerous African heads of state, she was decorated with prestigious badges like the case of the Senegalese president Mackie Sall.
