The different types of streaming platforms

LEGAL :

The “legal platforms” are the platforms with a mensual subscription like Netflix. There are many others but we will focus on Netflix.

Netflix is the most famous platform on the internet with 139 million subscribers in 2018. It’s an american business who was created in 1997 by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph. Everything started with the creation of “Pure Software”, a company created by Reed Hastings in 1991. In 1997, he sold it and earned 75 millions dollars. With this money, he set up Netflix with the help of Marc Randolph but it’s on the 14th April 1998 that the site has opened. At first, we could only buy or rent DVDs on the site and there were only 30 workers. It’s in 2009, after a lot of hard work and some moment of doubts, that the site became finally very famous with 11 millions of subscribers and more than 100,000 movies and series. After that, the numbers of subscribers didn’t stop increasing. That big success came because of the numerous contracts that Netflix signed with some big companies like Walt Disney, Pixar Studios or Marvel Studios which allowed them to launch even more films and series on the platform and continue their expansion to eventually finish as the number one in their category and make millions of people addicted. This story prove that with ambition ‘and still a little bit of money’, everything is possible, you just have to believe in your dreams.

ILLEGAL :

Unfortunately, not everyone can afford a subscription because that's not for free so some people decided to create their illegal streaming platform so that they too could watch their movies or series even if it's not allowed by the law. But it's not just people who don't have Netflix who go there, there are also people who can't find their favorite movie or serie on their legal streaming platform and who will look for them on illegal ones. You can found these sites easily on the net but there is a lot of risk for your electronic devices because there are some that are full of computer virus. Usually these sites don't stay for long on the internet and get deleted maximum one year later. For example HDS, a very famous illegal streaming platform that you probably all knew, was removed from the net which caused a wave of sadness because a lot of people went there every day to watch their favorite shows.

To finish with this part of the work, yes the legal sites are really good but they are at a price that not everyone is willing to pay and in addition, there aren't all the shows you want so it's not a very bad idea to create some illegal sites to found them.

The impact on people :

On their academic performances :

Like we said earlier, today’s teenagers spend a lot of time watching TV shows on streaming platforms. With that came the phenomenon of “binge-watching”. Binge-watching is the act of watching several episodes of a serie during consecutive hours. Because this activity is very addictive, students are spending less time devoted to their academic pursuits because they feel the need of watching the next episode of their TV show which leads to bad academical results. Netflix France answered all that with a little funny video that we are going to show you right now.
