Water for Elephants :

First of all, Water for Elephants Movie is an adaptation of the historical novel «  Water for Elephants » by Sara Gruen in 2007.

Water for Elephants is an American film by Francis Lawrence, released on May 4, 2011 and written by Richard Lagravenese.

Francis Lawrence is a famous American director and film producer. He notably directed I am a legend and the wise Hunger Games.

Richard LaGravenese is an American screenwriter and film director, best known as the writer of The Fisher King.

Then, on the film the main characters are Jacob Jankowski, Marlena Rosenbluth and August Rosenbluth played by Robbert pattinson, Reese Witherspoon and Chritophe Waltz :

  • Robert Douglas Thomas Pattinson is an English actor. He began his film career at age 18 by playing Cedric Diggory in the fantasy film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005). He went on to star as Edward Cullen in the film adaptations of the Twilight novels, consisting of five films between 2008 and 2012. He plays Jacob Jankowski, an orphan vet student with no money.However, Jacob is also played by Hal Holbrook, an American actor, director and screenwriter
  • Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon is an American actress, producer, and entrepreneur. She plays Marlena Rosenbluth, a young woman married to the circus director in which Jacob is involved.
  • Christoph Waltz is a German-Austrian actor and director, mainly active in the United States.He plays August, the conductor of the train. A man who has a double personality. He can be very kind and caring but also very cruel and jealous.

The film is an adaptation of Sara Gruen from 2006. The story is told as a series of memories of Jacob Jankowski, the hero of history who lives in a retirement home. J. Jankowski is an orphan without money. He’s going to jump aboard a circus train belonging to the Benzini Brothers. He will be hired as a caretaker and will discover that humans and animals are being exploited and abused. This film tells the story of a man and a woman who will come closer through their love for an elephant called Rosie. Despite many obstacles they will fall in love.

In this film the themes that come back to us are
romanticism and the circus

Circus because We are caught up in the story of a circus trying to survive the Great Depression of the 1930s and

Romance because It is the love story of Jacob and Marlena who fall in love through the love they wear for animals.

It can also be described as dramatic because it is about old Jacob who tells his life that was complicated and full of obstacles
